Cryptocurrency growth team Bitcoin ABC has unveiled a patch to handle a significant vulnerability in bitcoin dollars mining computer software.

According to Bitcoin ABC’s incident report, the vulnerability would have allowed an attacker to initiate a break up in the bitcoin funds community.

To accomplish this, the attacker would have created a malicious transaction that involved the bitflag of “0x20” in the signature hash type. The transaction would have been recognized by Bitcoin-ABC .17. and mined into a block but turned down by all other bitcoin money mining computer software — like former versions of Bitcoin-ABC.

Bitcoin ABC was made mindful of the vulnerability on April 26, and builders quietly distributed a patch to mining pool operators and “verified bitcoin funds miners” before disclosing the opportunity exploit to the typical community.

From the statement:

“After examination of the vulnerability and doable responses, Bitcoin-ABC builders well prepared a patch for the vulnerability, and a non-public launch, to distribute right to mining pool operators. Owing to the decentralized nature of the mining group it was not feasible to access everybody specifically. This release was provided to confirmed Bitcoin Funds miners to forward to trusted miners when they experienced upgraded.”

That patch has now received a typical release, so miners making use of Bitcoin-ABC .17. are suggested to up grade to Bitcoin-ABC .17.1, which closes the assault vector.

“Bitcoin ABC will be taking various actions in purchase to prevent this kind of an function from transpiring once more, as effectively as minimize the general reaction time in the case of emergent issues in the potential,” the enterprise promised in its statement. “Additionally, Bitcoin ABC is in discussions with marketplace members to establish a official bug bounty method.”

Notably, Bitcoin ABC reported that they had been alerted to the vulnerability by a “clear and professional” report from an nameless tipster, to whom they intend to give a reward if he or she will come ahead.
